We’ve tried no cook.  We’ve tried adding Jell-o gelatin for color.  We’ve tried all sorts of variations, but this has been the best so far.  It comes together quickly and clean up is a breeze.

1 C flour
1/2 C salt
1 T vegetable oil (I’ve used olive oil and canola oil both)
1 1/4 t cream of tartar
1 C water

Add all ingredients to a small pot set over medium-low heat.  Stir to combine and keep stirring until the dough pulls away from the sides of the pot.  Turn play dough onto a cutting board and let cool.  Once it’s cool enough to work with, add a few drops of food coloring, and knead it until it’s the right consistency.

We store it in a takeout soup container, and it lasts forever.  I generally make one batch, and toss it when we get bored with the color.
