This coming Monday, Kenzie starts kindergarten. We’ve been really fortunate in that for her entire life thus far, we’ve had Mommy-Kenzie Tuesdays. Just the two of us would spend the day together, going on adventures (like sushi-Ikea dates, and hitting up local play spaces to craft and make a mess). As we get closer to that first day of school, I wonder if she’ll miss any of that quality time. I know I will.
1. What is your favorite color?
pink
2. What is your favorite toy?
play food and squishies
3. What is your favorite fruit?
It’s a Chinese fruit and it’s round, and I think I like it. (She’s referring to a lychee, which she hadn’t tried at the time. As a last hurrah, we went out and bought some yesterday. She likened them to an apple and a peach, ate three, and now I’m stuck with about $8 worth of lychee because the novelty has passed. Thanks, Kenzie.)
4. What is your favorite TV show?
Ralph Breaks The Internet. (Okay yes, she does like that movie. But in terms of TV, she loves watching YouTubers like Evan, Jillian and Ryan. They show up on her Hulu channel. I like that I don’t have to worry about violence or bad behavior, but I wish she wasn’t such a reality tv junkie.)
5. What is your favorite thing to eat for lunch?
Spaghetti and mac and cheese. (Mind you, not my homemade mac and cheese with heavy cream and five different cheeses. She’s talking about Kraft. Not the kind in the box that you add butter to, the kind in the cup that you microwave. With just water.)
6. What is your favorite outfit?
A dress and cool stuff, shoes. (And tutus, and anything with glitter and sequins.)
7. What is your favorite game?
Uno (She just played this with her “cousins” while on vacation in the Smoky Mountains. So she thinks it’s really cool. But I’d guess that Pop the Pig or Candyland would be her true favoritest.)
8. What is your favorite snack?
Banana chips. (What?!? I’m pretty sure I never gave her banana chips. She then informed me that she ate banana chips at daycare. So then I offered to buy her some to bring to school. She declined. It’s good to be five.)
9. What is your favorite animal?
A kitty cat, a dog, a giraffe and a zebra.
10. What is your favorite song?
This Girl Is On Fire, and jazz, and quiet music. (This is all true. She also likes Havana by Camila Cabello. But she always asks Alexa to play jazz and I love her for it. The quiet music is likely the playlist Jeff puts on at bedtime.)
11. What is your favorite book?
Chapter books and old books. (Also true. Her absolute favorite book is an old copy of Aesop’s Fables. No idea why.)
12. Who is your favorite friend to play with?
Anastasia and Josie, I like them best always.
13. What is your favorite sport?
Basketball and football and tennis. Those are my favorite things to do.
14. What is your favorite thing to do outside?
Go to the park and do jump ropes. (I’m not sure she can actually jump rope yet, but she does like the idea.)
15. What is your favorite drink?
Soda pop. (It most certainly IS NOT. That’s not on the list of allowed drinks for her in this house. She loves whole milk. So much so that she can taste the difference in fat content when we go out for meals. She’s very judgmental about milk.)
16. What is your favorite holiday?
Vacation and going to a big house cabin. (She has yet to meet a holiday she doesn’t like.)
17. What do you like to take to bed with you at night?
Bun Bun and a blanket and a stuffie. (Oh gosh, I love Bun Bun. It’s a well-loved lovey blanket that she got in one of her baby gift baskets. As a new mom, I was so out of it, that when I gave it to her as a baby, I truly thought it was a bunny. It wasn’t until she was two or so, that Jeff pointed out that it was a bear, not a bunny.) (Before you think Jeff is the rational one, he’s also the one that went on eBay and bought like six backup Bun Buns, in case we lost one. But those are poor replacements, as Kenzie still insists on the original.)
18. What did you do today?
We tried to do upper wheels *shrug,* but we’re going to do training wheels, try. (Jeff and her are playing around with her bike. Earlier today, Kenzie and I actually gave Great America a run for its money.)
19. What do you want for dinner on your birthday?
A cake and some pancakes.
20. What do you want to be when you grow up?
A basketball player and a cool girl. (You got that in spades, honey. I love you so much.)
